Self-love is selfish
I often her the objection that self-love is selfish. How dare we suggest we women/mothers/wives put ourselves first, before those we care for?
On the contrary, I think it’s a selfless act. You cannot give to others what you do not have yourself – so give yourself first. It’s what you have to do to be able to care for those around you. Charity begins at home and yet people cry “hell no!” when it comes to …. themselves.
Be very aware what complete self-sacrifice teaches our children. Our daughters will learn it is a must to give ourselves up for those around us while our sons will learn that is what a woman is supposed to do.
Your dreams are important. Your desires too. Your health and well-being a priority. To embody that is to teach your child exactly what this world is crying out for : self-love.
You can’t love another if you don’t love yourself. Nor can you give from an empty well.
